NYS AWWA Online Training - Walkerton: 20 Years Later

Description: It's been twenty years since the Walkerton outbreak, but many people there are still living with its aftermath. The long term impact includes elevated levels of kidney problems, irritable bowel syndrome, arthritis and a overall lack of trust in the water supply system. The episode illustrates how the water community is on the front line of public health.  Failure to understand our job or a failure to do our job results in our customers developing significant and sometimes fatal health issues. In these days where THMs, PFAS and other contaminants often garner the headlines, we can't forget about bacteria and the other microbes that hold the potential to sicken and sometimes, kill us. And after twenty years, we can't forget Walkerton.
